FIX: Wi-Fi Networks list is Empty or Wireless Network Names are not Displayed in Windows 10 (Solved)

In Windows 10, and usually after installing an update the following problem(s) may appear: the Wi-Fi Networks list is empty, or the Wireless Network Names are not displayed. In fact, when clicking the wireless icon on the taskbar, the “Available Wireless Networks” list pops up, but it’s empty (blank). If you ‘re running on a similar problem and Windows 10 does not show the available Wireless Networks, continue reading below to resolve it.

This tutorial contains step by step instructions to resolve the following issue in Windows 10: “Wireless Networks are not listed, or the WiFi network names are not displayed when clicking on the Wireless icon in the taskbar”.

FIX: Windows 10 Does Not Show Available Wi-Fi Networks.

Method 1. Uninstall Latest Windows 10 Update.

Since the problem of the non-appearance of wireless networks in Windows 10, commonly appears after installing Updates, the first method to resolve the problem is to remove the latest installed update(s). To do that:

1. From the Start menu choose Settings and then click Update & security.
2. At Windows Update options, select Update history.

3. Then choose Uninstall updates.

4. Select the latest installed update and click Uninstall.

5. Restart your PC and then see if the available Wi-Fi networks are shown on the networks list.

Method 2. Ensure that the Required Network Services are UP and Running.

The second method to resolve the “Windows 10 does not display available Wi-Fi networks” problem, is to check if the required network services are running. To do that:

1. Open Windows Services control panel: To do that:

• Press Windows + R keys to open the run command box.
• In the Search box, type: services.msc  & click OK.

2. In the right pane, make sure that the Status and the Startup Type are in the condition mentioned below:

• Network List Service: Running — Manual
• Network Location Awareness: Running — Automatic
• Network Setup Service: Not Running — Manual
• Radio Management Service: Running — Manual
• Windows Event Log: Running — Automatic
• WLAN AutoConfig: Running — Automatic

3. If any of the above listed services is not in the ‘Status’ mentioned above, double-click on it and change the Startup Type accordingly.

4. When done, restart your PC and check if Windows 10 shows the names of the available networks.

Method 3. Repair Windows Component Store & System Files.

1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
2. In command prompt give the following command and press Enter:

• DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

3. When the process is completed, give the following command:

• DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

4. When the DISM operation is completed, type the following command and hit Enter:

• sfc /scannow

5. Now wait until the System File Checker repairs the Windows System Files.
6. When the repair is completed, restart your PC and check if the problem has resolved.

Method 4. Uninstall & Re-Install the Wi-Fi Adapter.

1. Open Device Manager. To do that:

1. Press Windows + R keys to open the run command box.
2. In the “Open” box, type: devmgmt.msc & click OK.

2. Expand the Network Adapters.
3. Right click at the Wireless Network Adapter and select Uninstall device.

4. After uninstall, restart your computer, and let Windows to install the Wireless adapter’s drivers automatically. When this done, click the Wireless icon and see if the available Wireless networks are listed.

Method 5. Perform a Network Reset.

1. From the Start menu choose Settings and then click Network & Internet.
2. At Status page click Network reset.

3. Now click the Reset now button, to remove and reinstall all the network adapters and to restore the networking components to their default state.

4. Click Yes to Reset the network settings

5. Click Close at “You’re about to be signed out…” message.

6. Restart your PC.

Method 6. Install all available Windows Updates.

1. From the Start menu choose Settings and then click Update & security.
2. Click Check for Updates.

3. Let Windows to download and install all available Updates and then restart your computer and see if the problem is fixed.

Method 7. Update Windows 10 to the latest version.

1. Navigate to Windows 10 download site and click the Update now button.

* Note: If the ‘Update now’ button does not appear then you ‘re already running the latest version of Windows10.

2. Save the “Windows10Upgrade9252.exe” file on your desktop.
3. Double click at the downloaded file to open the Windows Upgrade Assistant.
4. Click Update Now to be patient until the update is complete.

Method 8. Clean install Windows 10.

If after applying the above methods, Windows 10 still doesn’t display the names of the available Wi-Fi networks, proceed and perform a clean Windows 10 installation.

Important: The clean Windows 10 installation means that all your files and settings will be lost during the installation process. So, proceed and backup all your important files and settings to another storage media before continue. (e.g. to an external USB drive).
