How to Automatically back up Outlook 2016, 2013, 2010, 2007 or 2003

In a previous tutorial I had described the way to manually backup your Outlook Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Tasks and Settings. In this tutorial I ‘ll show to you how to automatically back up your Outlook data .PST file (Emails, Calendar, Contacts, etc.) in Outlook 2016, 2013, 2010, 2007 & 2003 versions.

If you’re using Outlook as your email client program, then you should realize how important is to backup often the stored Outlook information and of course your personal files, to avoid data loss. But, backing up Outlook manually, is a job that we forget to perform for several reasons. So, in this tutorial, you ‘ll learn how to schedule automatic Outlook backups in all Outlook versions.

How to Schedule Backup Outlook 2016, 2013, 2010, 2007 or 2003. *

* Clarification: The methods below are working only for POP3 accounts (.PST Data files) and not for IMAP (.OST files).

Outlook 2010, 2013 & 2016

To automatically backup your Outlook data in Outlook 2013 and 2016 versions, you can use the Outlook 2016 and Outlook 2013 Backup Add-In.

1. Download the Outlook 2016 and Outlook 2013 Backup Add-In in ZIP file.   (SOURCE)
2. Extract the OutlookBackupAddIn.zip file.
3. From the ‘OutlookBackupAddIn’ folder, double click at the OutlookBackupAddIn.msi file.
4. Follow the on screen instructions to install the Outlook-Backup-Plugin.

5. When the installation is completed start Outlook.
6. From the main menu choose BACKUP and then click Settings.

7. At the “Backup Settings options”, select the PST files that you want to include in the backup, the Backup Interval (e.g. every 1 Day) and the destination of the Backup file(s).
8. When done, click Save.

9. When you exit Outlook for first time, the backup will start automatically to backup the selected PST files at the specified location.

 

Outlook 2007 & 2003

In order to automatically backup Outlook 2003, 2007 or 2010, you can use the Personal Folders Backup tool provided by Microsoft. *

* Note: The method doesn’t work anymore, because the “Outlook Personal Folders Backup Add-in” utility has removed from MS servers.

1. Download Outlook Personal Folders Backup Add-in. 
2. When the download is completed, double click at pfbackup.exe to start the installation of the Personal Folders Backup tool on your system.
3. Follow the on screen instruction to complete the installation.

4. When the installation is completed, start Outlook.
5. From the File menu click Backup.
6. Click the Options button.

7. Specify how often you want to backup your Outlook data and the destination folder for the backup file. When done, click OK.

8. Finally, click Save Backup to immediately backup your Outlook Data and to test the program.
