If you have an Ideapad 100S laptop and suddenly the keyboard, touchpad and sound stopped working, then in article you’ll find instructions to fix the problem.
One of the strangest problems I have encountered is that the touchpad, the keyboard, and sound do not work on a Lenovo Ideapad 100S-11IBY laptop after installing Windows 10 updates.
This particular problem is very frustrating for two reasons: First, because it makes the laptop almost unusable and second, because it is impossible to solve the problem unless you connect an external mouse.
If you’re having the same problem, take a deep breath, plug in an external mouse, and follow the instructions below to bring back the keyboard, touchpad and the audio on your laptop.
How to FIX: Keyboard, Touchpad & Audio Not Working on Lenovo Ideapad 100S-11IBY in Windows 10.
Important Notes:
1. Before proceeding with the methods below, make sure your keyboard is working and not damaged. To do this, check if your keyboard is working in BIOS setup, by following these instructions:
1. Turn off your laptop.
2. Turn on your laptop again and immediately and repeatedly press F2 or (Fn+F2) to enter in BIOS setting. (Another way to enter in BIOS setup is by pressing F12 or (Fn+F12), or by pressing the Novo button when your laptop is switched off)
3. If you can enter in BIOS setup, then navigate in BIOS settings (e.g. by using the arrow keys), to ensure that your keyboard is working and then continue to the methods below. If your keyboard does not work in the BIOS settings, skip to method-5.
2. If your keyboard seem to work in BIOS setup but its doesn’t work in the Windows login screen to type your password, do one of the following:
a. Connect an external USB keyboard to type your password, or…by using the external USB mouse…
b. Click the Ease of Access icon on the bottom right corner of the login screen to open the On-Screen Keyboard and then click the corresponding letters on the on-screen keyboard to type your password. After logging to Windows follow the methods below to fix the problem.
Method 1. Uninstall the Last Update(s).
If the reported issue appeared after installing updates to Windows 10, then this is probably the cause of the problem. To fix this, connect and external USB mouse to your PC and go ahead and remove the last installed update as follows:
1. From the Start menu choose Settings and then click Update & security.
2. At Windows Update options, select Update history.
3. Then choose Uninstall updates.
4. Click Installed On to sort the Microsoft Windows updates by their installation date, and then select and Uninstall the latest installed update. *
* Note: If no Updates installed recently, skip to next method.
5. When the uninstall process is completed restart you computer to apply changes and check if your keyboard, touchpad and audio are working. *
* Note: If you see more than one updates installed on the same date, then follow the same instructions and uninstall all of them.
Method 2. Install Intel Platform Drivers.
The next method to fix the reported problem, is to install the Intel Platform drivers for your laptop.
1. Navigate to Lenovo Ideapad 100S-11IBY support site.*
* Note: If you have another Lenovo model, proceed to download the drivers for your model.
2. Click on Motherboard Devices (core chipset, onboard video, PCIe switches)
3. Download the Intel Platform Driver (VGA, Audio, TEXI, Camera, Bay-Tail) for Windows 10 (32-bit) – ideapad 100S-11IBY
4. Double-click at the downloaded file an follow the onscreen instructions to install the driver package.
5. Restart your laptop.
Method 3. Power Drain your Laptop.
The final method to fix the “Keyboard, Touchpad & Audio Stopped Working” issue is to perform a power drain on your laptop as instructed below:
1. Shut down your laptop, by going to Start and then clicking the Power button using the external mouse.
2. Disconnect all connected peripherals.
3. Disconnect the AC Power Cable.
4. Press & hold down the power button for 50-60 secs. *
* Notes: If when you press the Power button the computer turns on, then release the Power button and then hold it down again.
5. Release the power button and press it once again to turn on the laptop.
6. Check if the keyboard is working. If not, try the same steps, but this time open the laptop cover and disconnect the battery also. If you cannot do this, leave the laptop on until it discharges or contact a qualified technician for assistance.
That’s all folks! Did it work for you?
