If you have a Windows 10 PC that meets the minimum hardware requirements to install Windows 11, but you are unable to upgrade your system using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant, then this guide will teach you how to upgrade to Windows 11 from ISO file.
Upgrading Windows 10 to Windows 11 using an ISO file is one of the reliable methods to install Windows 11 on your system without losing your files and settings, and in this guide you will find detailed instructions on how to do it.
How to Upgrade to Windows 11 from Windows 10 using a Windows.ISO file.*
* Important Notes:
1. The instructions below can be used either to update your Windows 10 PC to Windows 11 or to upgrade your Windows 11 PC to the latest version of Windows. (e.g. to Windows 11 23H2).
2. If you currently running Windows 10 and you to want to upgrade to Windows 11, first download and run the PC Health App to ensure that your system meets the system requirements to run Windows 11. 3. Your computer must have at least 64 GB of free disk space to upgrade it to Windows 11.
4. The Windows 11 upgrade It can take a long time to install. So, Make sure you have enough free time to do it and if you own a laptop connect it to a power supply. (Average install time: about 1-2 hours).
5. By upgrading your system using a Windows 11 ISO file, your files and settings will be preserved. But as a precaution, back up your data to an external storage device (e.g. to a USB disk), before starting the upgrade process.
6. To ensure a smooth upgrade, it is recommended that you uninstall any third-party security program you are using and reinstall it after the upgrade.
7. Before upgrading your system, press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC to open Task Manager and at Startup tab disable all third-party programs that open with Windows. Then reboot the PC and continue to the steps below.
To upgrade your Windows 10/11 PC from a Windows 11 ISO file:
Step 1. Download Windows 11 ISO file.
1. Navigate to Windows 11 Download site and download the ‘Windows 11 Media Creation tool”

2. Then run the downloaded “MediaCreationTool.exe” file and Accept the terms.
3. At ‘Select Language and edition’ window, leave the recommended options for your PC and click Next.
4. At the next screen, choose the ISO file option and click Next again.
5. Then click Save to save the Windows.iso file to your Downloads folder.
6. Now wait for the Windows.iso to download and when it’s done, click Finish.
Step 2. Install Windows 11 from Windows.iso file.
1. Save your work and close all running programs.
2.Open File Explorer and go to the location where you saved the “Windows.iso” file. (e.g. in the “Downloads” folder).
3. Double-click on the Windows.iso file to open it in File Explorer.
4. Then double-click to open the setup.exe application.
5. Click Next at “Install Windows 11” window.
6. Wait for the Windows installation wizard to check for updates and then click the Accept button when prompted to accept the ‘License Terms’.
7. Finally click Install to install Windows 11 while keeping your personal files and apps.
8. The Windows 11 installation will start. Wait for it to finish without interrupting it. (During the process your computer will restart several times)
6. If all goes well, after 20-30 minutes you should have successfully updated your Windows 10 PC to Windows 11.
7. After installing Windows 11, proceed to install all available updates by going to Start > Settings > Windows Update and clicking Check for updates. When all available updates are installed, you’re done!*
* Note: If after the upgrade, Windows 11 does not run smoothly or you do not like the new operating system, you can within 10 days to switch to the previous version of Windows (e.g. to Windows 10), by going to Windows Update > Advanced Options > Recovery and clicking Go back.
