By default, Microsoft Edge browser allows you to open any website in Internet Explorer Mode (aka “IE Mode”), if it’s not compatible with Edge. However, for this to be possible, Internet Explorer must be installed, otherwise you will receive the error “Internet Explorer cannot be found. re-install or re-enable Internet Explorer”.
How to Install or Re-Enable Internet Explorer on Windows 10/11.
On Windows 10/11 Internet Explorer is installed by default. But if you receive the mentioned error, it means that you or someone else has removed Internet Explorer from the computer. So, to fix the problem proceed to re-enable Internet Explorer on your Windows 10/11 PC, using one of the methods below.
Method 1. Enable Internet Explorer in Optional Features.
The first method to re-install Internet Explorer on Windows 11/10, is to install the Internet Explorer Mode optional feature.
1. From the Start menu, open Settings > Apps.
2. Then click Optional features.
3. Then, next to Add an optional feature, click View features.
3. Type internet explorer on the search, then tick the Internet Explorer Mode box and click Next.
4. Finally, click Install to enable Internet Explorer on Windows 10/11.
5. Wait the Internet Explorer installation to complete and then restart your PC.
Method 2. FIX “Internet Explorer can’t be found” issue by re-installing IE on Windows 11/10 with DISM.
The second method to re-install Internet Explorer on Windows 11/10, is by using the DISM command.
1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator. To do that:
1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the ‘Run’ command box
2. Type CMD and then press CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER.
2. In command prompt copy and paste the following command and press Enter:
- dism /online /Add-Capability /CapabilityName:Browser.InternetExplorer~~~~0.0.11.0
3. When the operation is completed press the Y key (yes), to restart your PC.
Method 3. Enable Internet Explorer 11 in Windows features on Windows 10.*
* Note: This method applies only to Windows 10.
1. Navigate to Control Panel > Programs and Features. If you don’t know how to go there:
1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the ‘Run’ command box
2. Type control appwiz.cpl and then press ENTER.
2. In Programs and Features click Turn Windows features on or off.
3. In Windows Features, check the Internet Explorer 11 and click OK.
4. Wait for Windows to install the required files and then restart the computer.
