How to Clear Chrome Browsing History, Cache, Cookies & Passwords.

Chrome, like other browsers, stores a browsing history of the webpages you visit on the web and stores some parts of them (like images), along with their cookies to optimize the speed of your browsing the next time you visit the same page.

Although Chrome’s cached data about your Internet activity helps you browse the Internet faster, on the other hand, if you want to protect your privacy, clearing Chrome’s browsing history, cache, cookies and passwords is a good practice for your security and often solves Chrome’s problems.

In this guide you will learn how to delete your browsing data (history, cookies, cache) and how to remove all your stored passwords and sensitive information from all or certain websites you have visited in Google Chrome browser.

To Clear History and Passwords in Chrome (Quick Steps)

1.  Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete to open the Clear browsing data window.
2. At Time Range choose All Time.
3. Check all checkboxes to clear all your browsing data, and click Clear now.

How to Delete Google Chrome Search History, Passwords, Cache & Cookies (Detailed Steps).

To remove your browsing history, cookies, cache and passwords in Chrome:

1. Launch Chrome and press Ctrl + Shift + Delete, or from the 3-dots menu select More tools > Clear browsing data.

2. In Clear browsing data window, select the Advanced tab and select the ‘Time range’ to clear your browsing data. You can choose Last hour, Last 24 hours, Last 7 days, Last 4 weeks, or All time.

3. Below, Chrome’s default options are to delete only your browsing history, download history, cookies and cached images and files. This is because these specific data are essentially useless and by deleting them you protect your privacy without significantly affecting your Chrome browsing experience.

a. If you want to delete the Chrome history, cache and cookies to protect your privacy or to earn disk space or to solve other browsing problems, just leave the default options that are checked and press the Clear data button. Finally, close and re-open Chrome and continue your work.

b. If you want to delete all your browsing activity in Google Chrome including all your sensitive personal information you give in sites, such as the saved usernames and passwords, the Autofill form data (e.g. your email, your credit card number, your shipping address, etc.), and other site settings (login status, etc.), scroll down and check all the available options. When done, click Clear data. Finally, close and reopen Chrome and you’re done!

* Important: Please note that after deleting all saved passwords and login data in Google Chrome, you will not be able to log in to online sites and services (e.g. Facebook, Gmail, Internet Banking, etc.), without re-entering your credentials (username and password). Therefore, before you delete your saved credentials in Chrome, make sure you know them.

How to Clear Chrome’s Cache, Cookies & Password for a Specific Website.

If you want to delete your stored credentials (username and password) for a particular website, along with the cache and cookies for it:

1. Navigate to the site for which you want to clear the Chrome data.
2. Click the lock icon on the left side of the address bar and then select Site settings

3. At the window that opens, click Clear data.

4. Finally click Clear to delete all data, cookies and passwords for that site and to sign-out from it. (The next time you visit that site you’ll be asked again for your credentials).

How to Automatically Clear Chrome Browsing History, Cookies and Passwords on exit.

If you want to delete all your browsing activity when closing Google Chrome:

1.  From the 3-dots menu   select Settings.
2. At Security and Privacy options, click Cookies and other site data.

3. Scroll down and set the Clear cookies and site data when you close all windows to On. When done, close and reopen Chrome. *

* Note: Although this is a nice method to maintain your privacy, I suggest to always clear your browsing activity manually, as described above.

How to Prevent Chrome to Save your Browsing History.

If you always want to keep your Chrome browsing activity intact, always browse privately in Incognito mode. To do that:

1.  Launch Chrome and press Ctrl + Shift + N, or from the 3-dots menu choose New Incognito window
