How to Create System Image or Restore System Image in Windows 7/8/10.

When Windows crashes and fails to boot normally, you can recover your PC using a System Image backup. A System Image backup, is a a complete image of your hard drive and all files required to restore your system as it was when the backup performed. 

Creating a System Image backup, when your system is on a good condition, gives you the ability to fully recover your computer in the future, especially if any other attempt (e.g. using System Restore) fails to resolve your problem.

In this tutorial you ‘ll find detailed instructions on how to create a System Image backup and how to restore your computer using the System Image.

How to Create a System Image Backup in Windows 10, 8 and 7 OS.

1. Open Windows Control Panel.
2. Click System and Security.
3. Click Backup and Restore.

4. Choose the Create a System Image link on the left side.
5. Select the location that you want to save the System Image (Backup destination). At this point choose an available drive with enough free space (e.g. your external USB disk).

6. Clink Next and then click Start Backup to start the backup process.
7. When the backup is completed close the wizard.

 

How to Restore your PC from a System Image Backup in Windows 10, 8 and 7 OS.

To recover your system using a earlier system image, connect the drive that contains the backup of the System Image and then boot your system into recovery options.

If you own a Windows 10, 8 or 8.1 based computer and you can boot to Windows normally, hold down the SHIFT key and then click Power > Restart (at the login screen or through Windows environment) to start Windows into recovery options.

If you cannot boot to Windows normally, or you own Windows 7 OS, then you will need to boot you computer from a Windows installation media in order to launch the Recovery System Image option.  If you don’t own a Windows media then you can create one by using Microsoft’s Media Creation tool.

1. Boot your computer from the Windows installation media.
2. Press Next at Language options screen.
3. Choose Repair your computer.
4. Then choose Troubleshoot -> Advanced Options –> System Image Recovery *

Note: In Windows 7, select the Restore your computer using a system image that you created earlier option and click Next.

5. At the next screen choose the system image backup that you want to restore and click Next.
