Method 1. Disable or Uninstall your Antivirus/Security Software.

In most cases, the Runtime error in Outlook, is caused because you have installed an Antivirus plugin to protect you from malicious emails. At that case, proceed and temporarily disable the Antivirus protection on your Email or completely uninstall the Antivirus/Security application and then launch Outlook.

If after disabling the email protection (or after uninstalling your security application), the Outlook.exe runtime error has resolved, proceed and reinstall the latest version of the security software.

 

Method 2. Disable Outlook Add-ins.

To second method to fix the “OUTLOOK.EXE Runtime Error” is to start the Outlook application in Safe Mode in order to be able to disable the plugin that causes the error.

1. To start Outlook in Safe Mode, hold down the CTRL key (on your keyboard) and then double-click at Microsoft Outlook shortcut, or:

2. Type: outlook /safe and click OK.

  • If you ‘re using Outlook 2016, 2013 or 2010:

1. Click the File menu and select Options.
2. Select Add-ins at the left pane.

5. Restart Outlook.
6. If after restart, Outlook starts normally and without the “Runtime Error”, then proceed and enable one-by-one all the disabled plugins and restart Outlook, until you find which one cause the problem.

  • If you ‘re using Outlook 2007:

1. On the Tools menu, click Trust Center.

2. Select Add-ins on the left pane.
3. At the right pane, select COM Add-ins and click Go…
4. Uncheck all checkboxes, to disable all add-ins and click OK.
5. Restart Outlook.
6. If after the restart, Outlook starts normally and without the “Runtime Error”, then proceed and enable one-by-one all the disabled plugins and restart Outlook, until you find which one cause the problem.

  • If you ‘re using Outlook 2003:

1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
2. At the Other tab, click Advanced Options.
3. Press the COM Add-Ins button.

4. Uncheck the checkbox next to the Add-in that you want to disable and click OK.
5. Restart Outlook.
6. If after restart, Outlook starts normally and without the “Runtime Error”, then proceed and enable one-by-one all the disabled plugins and restart Outlook, until you find which one cause the problem.

Method 3. Repair Outlook PST file.

Method 4. Repair Office Installation.

The last method, to fix problems in Outlook and Office programs, is to repair the Office installation. To repair the Office installation, double-click at the “Setup.exe” application, from the Office installation media and choose Repair. Alternately, navigate to “Programs and Features”, select the “Microsoft Office” program from the list of installed programs and click Change. Finally choose “Repair” and click Next.
