The following problem occurs on a Windows 10 based computer with Office 2007 installed: Each time Excel starts, a popup error “stdole32.tlb” appears, and after clicking “OK”, starts a new process that configures the Office product, and then opens the Excel. The “stdole32.tlb” error in Excel, usually occurs after a Windows or Office Update.
This tutorial contains instructions to resolve the pop-up error “stdole32.tlb” in Office Excel 2007 & Excel 2010.
How to FIX: stdole32.tlb error in Excel 2007/2010.
Important: In some cases, the “stdole32.tlb” error in Excel, occurs if two different versions of Office are installed on the same machine. For example, in Windows 10, Office 365 is already installed (as a trial version), and you must uninstall it before you install the Office version that you purchased. So, before proceeding further, make sure that you have only one Office version installed on the computer.
Method 1. Uninstall Latest Updates.
1. Navigate to Control Panel > Programs and Features.
2. In ‘Programs and features’ click View Installed Updates on the left.
3. Navigate to “Microsoft Office Professional 2007” group of updates, and uninstall all the latest Office updates.
4. Then locate and then uninstall the following update (if exists):
- Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2767916).
5. Then look at “Microsoft Windows” group and remove the latest Windows updates.
6. Restart your PC and check if the problem has resolved. *
* Note: If the problem persists, you can try to restore your system to a previous working state, or to continue to method 2.
Method 2. Uninstall and Reinstall Office.
Follow one of the methods below to remove Office on your PC and then reinstall it.
Method 1. Uninstall Office from Control Panel.
1. Navigate to Control Panel > Programs and Features.
2. Uninstall the Microsoft Office suite and the Office Validation Add-in (if installed).
3. Reboot your computer and reinstall Office.
5. When the Office installation is completed, restart your computer again and then check if the stdole32.tlb error has resolved.
Method 2. Uninstall Office by using the Microsoft Office Removal tool.
1. According you Windows and Office version, download and run the Office Removal utility:
- To Uninstall Office 2013 Or Office 365 in any Windows version: O15CTRRemove.diagcab
- To Uninstall Office 2010 in Windows 10/8: MicrosoftFixit20055.mini.diagcab

- To Uninstall Office 2007 in Windows 7/XP: MicrosoftFixit50154.msi
- To Uninstall Office 2003 in Windows 10/8: MicrosoftFixit20054.mini.diagcab
- To Uninstall Office 2003 in Windows 7/XP: MicrosoftFixit50416.msi
2. Reboot your computer and reinstall Office.
Method 3. Uninstall Office by using the Geek Uninstaller Utility.
If you cannot remove Microsoft Office suite by using the classic method {Add/Remove Programs (Program & Features)} or by using the Microsoft’s Office Uninstall tool, then you can
1. Download and extract the GeekUninstaller (geek.zip) utility to your computer.
2. Double click to launch the geek application.
3. Right-click at the Microsoft Office suite and choose Uninstall.
4. Proceed to Uninstall Office. If you still face problems with Office uninstall, then right-click again at Microsoft Office item but this time choose Force Removal.
5. Ask Yes at the next window and let the Geek Uninstaller utility to remove the Office suite from your computer.
