I have installed and used VLC several times as a multimedia player. But in few installations I have face the “Building Font Cache” dialog window while starting VLC or while starting to play media files. During this behavior the VLC player hangs and an information message displayed on the screen says “Please wait your font cache is rebuilt. This should take less than few minutes”.
What the VLC’s “Building Font Cache” message means?
VLC rebuilds the font cache in order to display properly the video subtitles which are appeared on the bottom side of VLC player’s window. If you continuously face the “Building Font Cache” dialog and your VLC player hangs on startup or while starting playing your media files, then follow the steps in this guide to resolve the “Building Font Cache” problem on VLC.
