The Windows 10 & Windows 8 operating systems, includes a new useful feature which called “Reset this PC” and allows you to easily reinstall Windows 10 to its default state, without losing your files or by removing all your personal files.
The Windows 10 reset feature, helps you to easily resolve several problems with programs and applications that cannot be resolved by using other ways. To reinstall Windows 10 by using the “Reset this PC” feature, follow the instructions below.
How to Reinstall Windows 10 without losing your files.
Method 1. Reset Windows 10 from Windows 10 Environment.
1. In the search box, type “reset this pc“.
2. Click at Reset this PC result.
3. Click Get started
4. At the next screen, read carefully the offered options and choose the one you want.
- Keep my Files: This option will perform a Windows 10 refresh without affecting your personal files.
- Remove everything: This option will perform a Windows 10 refresh and removes all your personal files, so, make sure that you have a current backup of your personal files on another storage device.
Method 2. Reset Windows 10 from Advanced Startup Options.
The second method to reinstall Windows 10, is by launching the “RESET this PC” from the Windows 10 Recovery options. To do that:
1. In the search box, type “reset this pc“.
2. Click at Reset this PC result
3. At Advanced startup section choose Restart now.
4. After restart click Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
5. At the next screen, read carefully the offered options and choose the one you want.
- Keep my Files: This option will perform a Windows 10 refresh without deleting your personal files.
- Remove everything: This option will perform a Windows 10 refresh and removes all your personal files, so, make sure that you have a current backup of your personal files on another storage device.
Method 3. Reset Windows 10 from Recovery Environment.
If Windows 10 cannot start normally, then you can refresh Windows 10 by using a recovery media (DVD or USB). If you down own a recovery media then then from another working computer, you can create one by using Microsoft’s Media Creation tool.

2. At the first screen choose Repair your computer.
3. At Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot.
