The “Account does not exist” sign-in error in the Teams app on Mac devices usually occurs if you have previously logged into MS Teams using a personal account that has the same email address as your Microsoft 365 account.

To fix the mentioned Teams sign-in problem on your Mac, make sure that you can sign-in to your Microsoft 365 account using Microsoft Teams on the web, and then follow the instructions below.

Method 1. Reset Microsoft Teams Cache.

The first method to resolve the Teams login error “Selected user account does not exist in tenant”, is to clear the Microsoft Teams cache on your Mac.

1. Right-click the Teams icon in the dock and select Quit, or press Command (⌘) + Q to shutdown MS Teams .

2. Go to Finder and then go to Applications > Utilities folder.

3a. Open the Terminal app and then copy & paste (or type) the below command inside the terminal window:

  • rm -r ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams

4. Press Enter to execute the command. After command execution close the Terminal window.

5. Now open Teams and try to sign-in.

 

Method 2. Remove Old Microsoft Teams Accounts.

If you still cannot sign-in to MS Teams after resetting the Teams cache, proceed to delete all the Teams accounts and their credentials from your Mac. To do that:

1. Right-click the Teams icon in the dock and select Quit, or press Command (⌘) + Q to shutdown MS Teams.

2. Open Finder and go to Applications > Utilities folder.

3. Open the Keychain Access.

3a. Find and delete all keys (credentials) related to MS teams.

3b. Search to find all the keys (credentials) related to Microsoft and then delete the following 2 keys:

  • com.microsoft.oneauth
  • com.microsoft.adalcache

4. Now from the Finder go to Applications > Utilities and open the Terminal App.

5. Give the following command to reset the Teams cache:

  • rm -r ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams

6. Launch Teams and try to sign-in to your Microsoft 365 account.

 

Method 3. Remove and re-install Teams app.

If after following the above methods you still get the error “Selected user account does not exist in tenant ‘Microsoft Services'”, proceed to completely remove & re-install Microsoft Teams as instructed below:

1. Right-click the Teams icon in the dock and select Quit, or press Command (⌘) + Q to shutdown MS Teams.

2a. Open Finder and go to Applications folder.

2b. Select the Microsoft Teams folder and delete it. (move it to the Trash).

3a. Now from Finder select Go > Go to and type (copy-paste) the following folder path:

  • ~/Library/Caches/

3b. Delete the following two (2) items:

    1. com.microsoft.teams
    2. com.microsoft.teams.shipit

4a. Now Go to the following folder:

  • ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/

4b. Delete (move to trash) the Teams folder.

5. From Finder go to Applications > Utilities folder.

6. Open the Keychain Access.

6a. Find and delete all keys (credentials) related to teams.

6b. Search to find all the keys (credentials) related to Microsoft and then delete the following 2 keys:

  • com.microsoft.oneauth
  • com.microsoft.adalcache

7. Download and re-install Microsoft Teams.

 

Method 4. Remove & re-Add Microsoft Office License.

The final method to fix the mentioned Teams sign-in problem, is to remove and re-add the Microsoft Office license on your Mac. To do that:

1. Download the Office License removal tool (Source)

2. Run the tool, click Continue and then click Install

3. When asked, type your Mac’s admin account password to proceed to remove the Office license. When this done, Close the tool.

4. Now, open Microsoft Teams or any other Office application and sign-in to your Microsoft 365 account to activate the license.
